I have a problem with my address listed on the Royal Mail database

If your address if missing from our Postal Address File or it’s incorrect, we can help.

Situation

  • My address doesn't show on the Royal Mail PAF.
  • I'd like to give my house a name instead of a number.
  • My house has a name, but the name isn’t showing on the PAF.
  • I live in a flat but my individual flat number isn't listed on the PAF.

Solution

  1. Email the address to the Address Management team - addressmaintenance@royalmail.com. Let us know your full address details, where the property is (for example what is either side of the property) also is it a new property? We'll then let you know if this can be added or whether you’ll need to register the property with your Local Authority.
  2. To remove a house number and replace it with a house name, just contact your Local Authority. They are responsible for officially naming and numbering all properties.
  3. We can add a house name to your property but only as an “alias” The number of your property is still the main identifier and you must use the number in any correspondence. If you want to add a name as an additional identifier drop us an email at addressmaintenance@royalmail.com.
  4. This is because the address is part of multi-residence. Multi-residence is when a property has only one delivery point but the property inside is split into flats. As the Postal Address File is a database that only reflects delivery points; we can't list all the numbers or names on our main database, but we do keep a separate “Multi Residence file”. To confirm that your property is listed in our multi residence file. Email us at addressmaintenance@royalmail.com.
